Drag the Words — Foundational Sentence-Builder Variant

A drag-and-drop exercise where learners pull word tiles into the right blanks in a sentence or passage — a clean foundational variant that fits any sentence-construction or vocabulary-in-context lesson.

Best for: Sentence-construction and vocabulary-in-context lessons where learners need to place the right word in the right slot.

What it does

  • Word bank with tiles — a clearly grouped set of word tiles sits beside or above the passage, ready to drag
  • Blanks in the passage — labeled drop zones in the sentence or passage show the learner exactly where words go
  • Snap-to-correct, bounce-on-wrong — correct drops lock with a satisfying confirmation; wrong ones gently return to the bank
  • Per-blank feedback — once a tile is dropped, instant correct/revisit cues appear right at the blank
  • Reset and try again — a clear button puts every tile back in the bank so the learner can re-drill

Best use cases

  • Language and writing — fill-in vocabulary, idiom practice, grammar drills
  • K-12 and ESL — sight-word practice, reading comprehension, sentence construction
  • Test prep — verbal-section practice, sentence-completion drills, SAT vocabulary
  • Professional writing — corporate-jargon practice, legal-term placement, technical-writing drills
  • Onboarding — brand-language drills, product-terminology practice, internal-vocabulary training

What you can change with your DNA

When you run this through the remix skill, your CCOS DNA — brand, voice, audience — drives these decisions automatically:

  • Colors — slots for page background, word-bank background, tile color, blank-slot color, correct/incorrect feedback colors, and accent
  • Fonts — two roles: a display font for the title, plus a clean body font for tiles and passage text
  • Copy — title, intro line, the passage with marked blanks, the word tiles (including distractors), and feedback messages
  • Images — optional decorative element framing the exercise, or a small icon per tile for visual variants
  • Behavior — choose the number of blanks, whether distractor tiles are included, whether grading happens per-tile or all-at-once, and how forgiving the matching is

How remixing works
